It was the
weekend of 19 and 20 October and the time was finally there... the introduction
weekend to Landelies. Well, we didn’t actually go to Landelies. Mother Nature
decided to raise a big middle finger at us and let it rain in Landelies.
Because of this weather it was unfortunately not possible to go outside to
climb and how much I would like to entertain you with stories about beautiful
walls with or without great overhang, that won’t be possible. Luckily,
everything was well arranged and we went to a beautiful climbing hall in
Germany. Of course I found out about this far too late, after having completely
rushed to fill my way too small car with all kinds of camping gear, but I was
just happy that we were at least going to do something.
So there we
went, early in the morning by car and we drove to Düsseldorf with our hangovers
from the intro party the day before. Of course I have a lot of self-control and
felt absolutely great (not), but driving a nice 150 km/h in a crowded car on
the Autobahn in a car with a top speed of 160 km/h, did make me awake again.
Once we arrived in the hall we had to show that we were really capable of climbing
and after that we could work on our own. In the hall there were not only a lot
of beautiful climbing routes but there was also a beautiful boulder piece and a
speed wall. After a few hours of climbing on our own, we held a small speed
climbing tournament, which is much more difficult than it looks, and we went
for a short bouldering session and then back to Eindhoven.
After
arriving we all walked to the assembly point at the SSC and started working on
the food. We ate a risotto that was prepared in an exceptionally large pan, but
it was delicious. After taking a very long time to cook and eat everyone went
back to home, so I went with my still hungover head in the overcrowded car and
drove home. By the way, the car still isn’t unpacked, I really have to do it.
