The legendary batavierenrace of 2019, what should I say, you should have been there. We fought, suffered, cried and laughed. All ultimately for the beautiful SAC cup that is handed out annually on the TSAC BBQ after the race to the fastest SAC team.
But let's start at the beginning ...
After we ran the batavierenrace last year with only 12 people, we decided to do things differently this year. Where we had the goal of not being disqualified last year and therefore people had to walk 3 races, we wanted to win this year! The NijSAC wanted to run with us and we signed up the NijESAC as a team. After several Skype meetings, 10-11 May was finally there. Following a cozy dinner in Maarten's room (NijSAC) and arranging a few small things we were able to get started.
And we were fast, when the afternoon shift woke up, the night shift had already set nice times and the morning shift was still busy. In the car towards the switch point, we became really fanatic. The times that had already been set were beautiful, the bar was set high. Riding with a van from exchange point to exchange point while climbers run the lungs out of their bodies. May not sound very special, but if it goes so fast! With an average of more than 12 km per hour and beautiful outliers from, among others, Joris, Bram, Josien and Tom, we quite proved that climbers can also run. We are ready for the alpine season!
After everyone had recovered a bit, it was time for the annual BBQ of the TSAC with the legendary brasparty. Where last year someone broke his ankle and the year before the police had been called, the flag was soon given away this year. At the award ceremony, it turned out that the IBEX was absent (what else should you do without a climbing hall), so that we were ultimately the fastest SAC team and were allowed to take the cup. Afterwards, it was time for the biggest student party in the Benelux where it was time to get drunk very cheaply for our exhausted bodies after this sports performance.
The NijSAC currently still has the trophy, we will get it back after the wALV. Will you be there next year to defend the trophy? You can do this with 25 people but maybe also with 6 next year!
