In the early morning of October 20, a large group of enthusiastic climbers gathered at the sports center in Eindhoven. Once the material was packed and the group divided over the cars, the the journey to the Ardennes could begin! Around noon we arrived in Hotton. After a short walk we reached the place where we could climb. With great admiration I watched how the routes were climbed. When the ropes hung, it was my turn to start my first route.
As
a newbie in climbing and without experience with climbing in nature, I
thought it was very exciting to make the first steps on the rock. What a difference with climbing in the hall! After
two less successful attempts, I succeeded in completing a route and
this gave a very good feeling and a lot of motivation to continue
climbing. We have been able to climb all afternoon and relax in the sun while enjoying homemade baking.
In
the evening we stayed in a beautiful and luxurious location, namely the
house of Femke near the village of Gouvy, where we could even use the
hot tub! After dinner the campfire was lit and we spent the rest of the evening warm. The next morning we were awakened with Guten Morgen Sonnenschein and the day had started well. We left again towards the climbing areas (Hotton or Sy) and climbed here untill 5 o'clock. It was sunny, but not too hot, so a perfect climbing weather.
During
the return trip to Eindhoven we traditionally stopped at the pizzeria
in Visé to conclude this fantastic weekend with each other. In short, for me it were fun and active days and a wonderful introduction to the ESAC climbing weekends!
