My name is Samuel Oosterholt, first year bachelor Computer Science, and as a new ESAC member I went on the second intro weekend to Nideggen to start climbing in nature.
Of course it all started on Saturday morning when I had to get up early to take the train to Eindhoven, with my hike backpack and all. The atmosphere of the weekend you noticed early on, even before I left my house people were active in the group app to talk about how much sense they had.
After having packed all the stuff and loaded it we were on our way to Nideggen. Too bad we drove an hour after departure past my house because it was on the route, I actually did not have to get up so early. Once arrived everyone was immediately ready to climb and we were already on our way to the climbing routes. For someone who had never climbed outside it was quite an experience, but fortunately everyone was more than willing to help.
After having climbed all day and we all sat by the campfire with our dinner, I noticed the day, the group of people and the atmosphere that ESAC is actually a big group of friends who happen to climb fanatically.
